Humankind Survival and Space Settlement

Advances in genetics, artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, and synthetic biology have resulted in increasing threats to humankind survival by supervirus or other super pathogen in the environment, such as by commercial laboratory accident, academic research, or biowarfare. Also at risk is Earth's biosphere, including a potential major extinction event.

It is up to our generation to save life from our unique planet in the Universe.

Leaders of every country, culture, and race should be included and join in, for multiracial and multicultural population of outer space independent of Earth.

In 2019, NASA started the Artemis Project to return to the Moon to stay, and has partnered with many nations to work together, for lunar south pole development.

• Mine, manufacture, and farm on the Moon.

• Build habitats for all kinds of support staff.

• At first, governments can provide incentives and leadership encouragement.

• The private sector takes over, and creates a space economy.

• Export products and services, and help to conserve Earth's environment.

• Ensure the survival of humankind and much life from Earth. Start families.

China was excluded from Artemis by the USA, so a new "Space Race" has started. China has big plans for the Moon's south pole, too, and Russia joined China.

The "space race" should be vs. time, not between countries. It is nearly too late to save humankind, because laboratory technologies are already good enough to create superviruses and other super pathogens, and A.I. is advancing that capability exponentially. Laboratories compete and race, too.

This is the most important challenge for our generation, which is the special generation responsible for humankind survival in all geologic time. To deny or ignore this would be irresponsible.

The purpose of this short, easy to read website is to introduce key people to this challenge. The author, Mark Prado, is an American scientist who has researched and promoted space mining and settlement over more than 40 years. He also worked in advanced planning in the US space program for the Pentagon, has traveled and lived overseas for decades, and promotes peaceful space development and settlement by people of a diversity of races, cultures, and nationalities. He can help as an adviser and consultant for many purposes.

When Apollo 11 astronaut Neil Armstrong was the first man to step onto the Moon, he said:
"That's one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind."
We need to complete that leap for mankind/humankind. We must go back to stay, self-sufficiently, and urgently.

In the purpose and meaning of life, we are parts of something astronomically greater than just ourselves individually. (The author sees individuality as just temporary, and has a panentheistic outlook on the Universe. That's somewhat typical for some of us physicists.) The author is easygoing and is trying to selflessly help create a sustainable collaboration of individuals, companies, governments, academic institutions, and other organizations for the survival of humankind.

As President John F. Kennedy ended his inaugural speech in 1961, I'll end this the same way:

"And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you--ask what you can do for your country.

"My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man.
